January 2015 Dividend Update!

I am very happy to be able to make this post! As its my first dividend update of the year and its starting on a new dividend income record for me! This months total was brought up from the previous comparable month due to my recent portfolio addition of RioCan REIT and more shares of Algonquin Utilities as well as AQN's dividend increase/conversion to US Dollar
which coincided with the decline in the Canadian Dollar. This months total dividends are $75.17! Beating my 2014 top month of $64.05, an increase of $11.04.

Record!

Overall, I am super happy to be breaking a dividend record, especially knowing that the next time the comparable month comes along it will be even higher with my addition to Dream REIT. I also benefited this month from AQN through the dip in the Canadian dollar, and my increased position as well from the last payment. In regards to AQN, I also need to get the DRIP set up to start getting an extra share or two to help grow that position naturally with every quarter.

How was your first month of dividend payment? Hopefully no unfortunate surprises due to the energy market or otherwise. I am fairly confident, although still somewhat concerned about PPL, VSN and SU's as they are tied to the oil industry.

  1. Good on you Wisp!

I tend to DRIP everything I can, and then, the leftover cash goes to be invested in ETFs.

This way, I build the stock portfolio and I diversify at the same time. Win-win.

You have enough to get AQN DRIPping, get that compounding going.

    1. Thanks! And agreed! Utilizing DRIPs is also part of the reason why I will be keeping my TFSA portfolio to only 10-15 positions.
Thanks for stopping by and following on Twitter!

  3. I applaud you on breaking your 2014 dividend income for the month. Just goes to show what compounding can do for your returns. I guess we are coming up to that time of the month where we get to tally up our dividend income. There's no doubt that these posts are the most fun to write and read about among the dividend bloggers. Thank you for sharing and look forward to your next update.

    1. Agreed! Its definitely one of my favourite and easiest posts to write. And like the dividends I get its always going to be a reliable post; I'v sadly not had too much time to finish up some of my longer posts that I would like to put out, ex. DRIPS, Watchlist performance review and utilizing googledocs. Looking forward to seeing your div income for the month :)

  4. Congrats on setting a new record, DW. Some really nice strong names in that portfolio...that have a good payout. I own REI and have wanted to add, but looks like I missed it and the stock has rallied after the surprise rate cut.

  5. Thanks! And I am pretty happy with my recent buy of Dream Office REIT. Was not expecting the BoC to actually cut interest rates, so turned out to be good timing. Also means that the next comparable month will be a new record due to the additional ~$4.4 in monthly income(assuming no cuts in oil related holdings). And yeah, im fairly surprised with REI's gains, especially with Targets departure, although from what i'v read Target was only about 2% of their leases spaced IIRC.
