July 2016: Dividend Update!

July is a great month for so many reasons; summer is in full swing with warm weather, the sun is out after 8pm and I received my highest month yet in dividend income! July beat out last April's payout by $12.46 on dividend increases and a weakening Canadian Dollar against the U.S Dollar alone. No extra effort on my part to earn it besides holding onto those shares.

Three of the companies I am holding and paid dividend in July have increased their dividend since April's update. Both PZA and PPL increases their monthly dividends in the last three months, as well as AQN increased their quarterly $US dividend. AQN's payout also increased for me since my portfolio is held in Canadian funds, and so with a strengthening $US compared to CAD I had a nice boost in dividend income this month.

July's dividend income is the highest I have had in a single month so far, beating out the last comparable months(April) by $12.46. And it is also more than 50% of the dividend income I earned in all of 2014, when I was just starting out this journey and made $393.59. Got to love that progress! With July's dividends I have also just passed over the $1,000 mark as well, with a year to date total of  $1,097.49, which is only $132.20 dollars short of my 2015 total.

  1. Thats an awesome progress. Next month you will surpass your total dividend earned for year 2015. I also had the best month in July. I'm getting close to $200/month. Have a good day!

    1. I think that I will be very close to passing it, certainly will within two months. Usually the 2nd/3rd months of a quarter a fairly quiet for me, closer to $100 in dividends each month. $200 every month is awesome! I found once i started getting to $100+ a month, it really helped me make more consistent stock buys and make those a bit larger as well. Keep it going!

  3. Dude excellent progress! July is usually a weaker month for most div investors, so the fact that yours was the highest is awesome!! Keep it up,

    1. Thanks. I hear that quite a bit about July/the first month of a quarter being slower for a lot of people. I guess it just depends on which month a larger portion of a portfolios companies pay out. I just so happen to a good monthly paying base + most of my quarterlies paying out in July :) It is basically 2.5x my other two months individually.

    1. It starts out slowly for sure, but steadily every month those dividends help to make more!
